ভারতে প্রচুর পরিমাণে নীল উৎপাদন করত। আর এই নীলের মূল শব্দ ইন্ডিগো থেকে ব্রিটিশরা ভারতের নাম রাখে ইন্ডিয়া।

আফগানিস্তানের A,
কাশ্মীরের K,
সিন্ধুর S এবং
বেলুচিস্তাদানের TAN নিয়ে পাকিস্তানের নাম করা হয়েছে।
চৌধুরী রহমত আলী এই নাম গঠন করেন এবং
মহাকবি আল্লামা ইকবাল এই নামের প্রস্তাব করেন।
মেসোপটেমিয়া : বর্তমান
ইরাকের প্রাচীন নাম হচ্ছে মেসোপটেমিয়া। দুটি গ্রিক শব্দ থেকে এই নামের উৎপত্তি। 'মেসো' অর্থ মধ্যস্থল এবং পুটেনুস অর্থ নদী। অর্থাৎ দু'টি নদীর মধ্যবর্তী স্থান। আর এই নদী দু'টি হলো
ইউফ্রেসটিস ও
টাইগ্রিস।
আমেরিকা : 1497 সালে আমেরিগো ভেসকুচি{আমেরিগো ভেচপুচ্চি (Amerigo Vespucci)} এই মহাদেশে আসেন এবং বহু অঞ্চল আবিষ্কার করেন। তার নামানুসারে আমেরিকার নামকরণ করা হয়।
অস্ট্রেলিয়া : অস্ট্রেলিয়া শব্দের অর্থ হলো এশিয়ার দক্ষিণাঞ্চল। এই ভূ-খণ্ডটি এশিয়া মহাদেশের দক্ষিণে অবস্থিত বলে এর নাম হয়েছে অস্ট্রেলিয়া।
নিউজিল্যান্ড : 1646 সালে ডাচ নাবিক ভাসম্যান এ দ্বীপটি আবিষ্কার করেন। তিনি হল্যান্ড (নেদারল্যান্ড)- এর জিল্যান্ড প্রদেশের নামানুসারে এ দ্বীপটির নাম রাখেন নিউজিল্যান্ড অর্থাৎ নতুন জিল্যান্ড।
ফ্রান্স : 'ফ্রাংক' নামে একটি গোত্র প্রাচীনকালে এখানে বসতি স্থাপন করেছিলেন। তাদের নামানুসারে এই দেশের নাম হয়েছে ফ্রান্স।
বাংলাদেশ: বাংলাদেশ নামটির উদ্ভব হয়েছে বাংলা ভাষার বাংলা আর দেশে'র দেশ শব্দ দুটি থেকে।
