প্রচুর সংগ্রহে সমৃদ্ধ এই জাদুঘরে পৃথিবীর পুরো ইতিহাসটাই যেন লুকিয়ে আছে। এ বিশাল সংগ্রহের দিক থেকেই এটি পৃথিবীর অন্যতম সমৃদ্ধ জাদুঘর হিসেবে পরিচিতি পেয়েছে। এ জাদুঘরটি ১৭৫৩ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হয়। পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন জায়গা থেকে চিত্রকর্মের বিশাল সংগ্রহ নিয়ে এটি বর্তমানে অন্যতম সেরা মিউজিয়াম। এখানে ৭০ লাখ দর্শনীয় বস্তু আছে। তবে এর মধ্যে ৪০ লাখ মানুষকে দেখানো হয়। প্রতিবছর গড়ে ৬০ লাখ দর্শনার্থী এই জাদুঘর দেখতে যায়। মিসরীয় সভ্যতারও বিশাল সংগ্রহ এখানে রয়েছে।
